How Does Belkyra Work

Belkyra's active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the submental fat (the fat beneath the chin), Belkyra disrupts the fat cell membranes, causing them to rupture and release their contents. The body then naturally processes and eliminates these destroyed fat cells, leading to a noticeable reduction in submental fullness.

Process

Your journey to a more sculpted and contoured physique begins with a thorough consultation and assessment. During this session, we will carefully examine your areas of concern, including the submental area (under the chin) and any other targeted body regions, to evaluate the extent of excess fat and determine if Belkyra is the right treatment.

During Treatment

During a Belkyra session, a series of injections will be administered precisely into the targeted area, such as beneath your chin or other approved treatment zones. These injections are carefully placed to target fat cells. The process is generally well-tolerated, but you may experience minor injection site pain or a slight warming/burning sensation that subsides quickly. To enhance your comfort, you can take an analgesic like Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment. It's important to avoid NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen as they can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.

Post Treatment

We recommend allowing for 3-4 days of social downtime after treatment, as swelling is common and part of the fat cell destruction process. This inflammation is a positive sign that the treatment is working effectively. As the swelling subsides, you'll notice a gradual reduction in fat. For optimal results, avoid anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs, Advil/Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Naproxen, etc.) for at least 1 week before and 4 weeks after your treatment.

Follow-Up Care

Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor your progress and assess the treatment's effectiveness. Depending on your individual needs and goals, additional Belkyra sessions may be recommended to achieve optimal results. These sessions are typically spaced several weeks apart to allow for the body to process and eliminate the destroyed fat cells.
