Sclerotherapy

FEWER VISIBLE VEINS. MORE EVEN-LOOKING SKIN

Sclerotherapy is a well-established medical treatment used to reduce the appearance of unwanted spider and small varicose veins. Simple, targeted and minimally invasive, it works by treating the vein itself—not simply disguising its appearance.

Overview

Let's Talk About Those Little Veins.

Spider veins are incredibly common. They can appear as fine red, purple or blue vessels, most often on the legs, and may become more noticeable over time.

Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment designed to close unwanted superficial veins so they gradually fade from view. It’s been used for decades and remains one of the most established treatments for appropriately selected leg veins.

The goal isn’t perfection or completely vein-free skin. It’s meaningful improvement in the veins that bother you.

How It Works

A Small Injection. A Gradual Change.

During sclerotherapy, a specialized medication called a sclerosant is carefully injected into the targeted vein. This irritates the inner lining of the vessel, causing it to close. Your body then gradually redirects blood through healthier vessels and naturally breaks down the treated vein over time.

Because the process is gradual, results develop in the weeks following treatment rather than immediately.

What It Treats

What Can Sclerotherapy Help With?

Sclerotherapy may be appropriate for:

  • Spider veins
  • Small superficial leg veins
  • Certain reticular or feeder veins
  • Clusters of visible red, blue or purple vessels
  • Residual veins following previous vein treatments, when appropriate

Not every visible vein should be treated with sclerotherapy. Larger varicose veins, symptomatic veins or signs of underlying venous disease may require further assessment or referral before cosmetic treatment is considered.

What to Expect

The Treatment & The After

Treatment begins with an assessment of the veins, your medical history and whether sclerotherapy is appropriate for what you’re seeing.

During treatment, small amounts of sclerosant are injected directly into selected vessels. The number of injections and treatment sessions required depends on the size, number and distribution of the veins being treated.

Temporary redness, swelling, bruising or tenderness can occur. Treated vessels can also temporarily look darker or more noticeable before they begin to fade.

Walking is generally encouraged following treatment, and compression garments may be recommended depending on the veins treated and your individualized treatment plan.

Improvement develops gradually over several weeks, and some vessels can take longer to resolve. Multiple sessions are common when treating larger areas or numerous vessels.

Who It's For

First, We Figure out What Kind of Vein We're Looking At.

Sclerotherapy is best suited to appropriately selected superficial veins. Before treatment, we assess not only what the vein looks like but whether there are symptoms or findings that suggest an underlying circulation issue requiring further investigation.

If your concerns include prominent varicose veins, significant leg swelling, skin changes, persistent pain or other symptoms suggestive of venous disease, further medical assessment may be recommended before proceeding.

Sometimes the right treatment is sclerotherapy. Sometimes it’s a referral. Knowing the difference matters.

The MAGY Approach

Thoughtful Treatment Starts with the Right Assessment.

At MAGY, sclerotherapy is approached as a medical treatment with an aesthetic goal.

We assess the vessels carefully, treat conservatively and set realistic expectations about what can—and cannot—be improved. Treatment plans are individualized to the type and distribution of veins rather than simply treating every vessel that’s visible.

Looking like yourself is the point.
