Fat Dissolving Injections

SMALL AREAS. TARGETED TREATMENT.

Fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical treatment designed to reduce small, localized areas of unwanted fat.

Treatment works directly within subcutaneous fat, initiating a process that breaks down targeted fat cells so they can be gradually cleared by the body over time.

The key is knowing when the concern is actually fat—and when it isn’t.

Targeted Fat Reduction

Designed to address smaller, localized pockets of subcutaneous fat rather than overall weight loss.

Non-Surgical

An injectable approach to localized fat reduction without surgery or liposuction.

Gradual Change

Results develop over time as the treated tissue responds and remodels.

Individualized Treatment

Anatomy, fat distribution, skin quality and the treatment area all influence whether injectable fat reduction makes sense.

Treatment Areas

When A Small Pocket Of Fat Changes The Contour.

Fat dissolving injections are best suited to localized areas of subcutaneous fat rather than generalized fat reduction.

Under The Chin

Localized fat beneath the chin can contribute to submental fullness or the appearance of a “double chin.” This is the most established area for injectable fat reduction.

Lower Face

In selected cases, localized fat can contribute to heaviness through parts of the lower face. Careful assessment is particularly important here, as skin laxity, tissue descent and facial structure can create a similar appearance.

Other Localized Areas

Injectable fat reduction may be considered for select small pockets of subcutaneous fat elsewhere on the body. Treatment outside established indications requires careful assessment and discussion of the available evidence, limitations and risks.

Assessment

First, We Figure Out What’s Creating The Fullness.

An area that looks full isn’t necessarily carrying too much fat.

Particularly through the face and neck, contour can be influenced by localized fat, skin laxity, underlying facial structure, tissue position and other anatomical factors—or a combination of several.

Fat dissolving injections address the fat component.

If the concern is primarily related to skin laxity, tissue descent or underlying structure, removing fat may not address what you’re seeing and, in some cases, may not be something we’d recommend at all.

The treatment starts with identifying the right problem.

Who It's For

When The Problem Is Actually Fat.

Fat dissolving injections may be appropriate when a small, localized pocket of subcutaneous fat is contributing to an unwanted contour and a non-surgical approach is preferred.

They are not a weight-loss treatment, nor are they necessarily the right solution for every area that appears heavy or full.

This distinction is particularly important around the face and neck. Removing volume from an area where fat isn’t the primary problem can fail to address the original concern—or change the contour in a way that wasn’t intended.

Sometimes the most important part of fat reduction is knowing what not to reduce.

Results

The Change Happens Gradually.

Fat reduction develops over time as the treated tissue moves through its inflammatory, healing and remodelling process.

How much change is achievable varies according to the amount and distribution of fat, the treatment area, individual anatomy, the formulation used and how the tissue responds.

Some people may require more than one treatment. Rather than applying a predetermined series to everyone, we allow the tissue to respond and reassess before determining whether additional treatment makes sense.

The goal isn’t to remove as much fat as possible. It’s to reduce the right amount, from the right area.

How It Works

What Actually Happens To The Fat?

Fat dissolving injections use injectable compounds that act within subcutaneous fat to disrupt targeted fat cells.

This creates a localized tissue response. The damaged fat cells and cellular material are then gradually processed and cleared as the area heals and remodels over time.

This process is also why swelling and inflammation can occur following treatment—and why the final result can’t be judged immediately.

Different injectable formulations exist, and they should not be assumed to be interchangeable. The formulation, treatment area, available evidence and individual anatomy all form part of determining whether treatment is appropriate.

Belkyra

You May Have Heard Of Belkyra®.

Belkyra® is one name commonly associated with injectable fat reduction. It is a prescription medication containing synthetic deoxycholic acid and is authorized in Canada for the improvement of moderate to severe fullness associated with fat beneath the chin in adults.

It is not synonymous with every type of fat dissolving injection.

Different formulations exist, which is why we approach this as a treatment category rather than a brand-name treatment.

What matters is understanding the area being treated, whether localized fat is actually responsible for the concern, and whether an injectable approach is appropriate in the first place.

What To Expect

Your Treatment, From Assessment To Result.

We start by determining whether localized subcutaneous fat is actually responsible for the concern you’re seeing.

We’ll assess the area, fat distribution, surrounding anatomy, skin quality and your overall treatment goals. From there, we can determine whether injectable fat reduction—or another approach entirely—makes sense.

During Treatment

If you’re an appropriate candidate, your provider will discuss the treatment being considered, why it has been selected, expected benefits, limitations, alternatives and potential risks before proceeding.

After Treatment

Swelling, tenderness, bruising, redness, firmness and temporary changes in sensation can occur following injectable fat reduction. The type and duration of these effects vary according to the treatment and area.

The treated area can temporarily appear fuller while swelling is present, so the early appearance should not be mistaken for the final result.

We’ll review treatment-specific recovery and aftercare with you.

Follow-Up

We allow time for the initial tissue response to settle before assessing the result.

At follow-up, we can evaluate the remaining fat, surrounding tissue and overall contour before deciding whether another treatment would be useful.

More treatment isn’t automatically better treatment.

The MAGY Approach

It’s Not Just About Making Something Smaller.

Good treatment starts with understanding what creates the contour in the first place.

We consider fat distribution, skin quality, underlying structure, surrounding tissues and how reducing volume in one area may affect the overall appearance.

We also think about the longer term. Faces and bodies change, weight can fluctuate and volume plays an important role in how tissues are supported and how contours appear over time.

Sometimes fat dissolving injections make sense. Sometimes another treatment will address the concern more effectively. And sometimes leaving the volume alone is the better decision.

We treat what makes sense—not simply what can be treated.
